Profile of the Journal

Annali di Igiene, Medicina Preventiva e di Comunità is an international, multidisciplinary, full open access and peer-reviewed journal. It publishes original researches, reviews, rapid public health reports and commentaries in the fields of preventive medicine, environmental health and health policy.

The Journal was founded in 1889 by Professor Angelo Celli as “Annali dell’Istituto d’Igiene Sperimentale dell’Università di Roma”; its name changed several times since then, as detailed below in Former Titles – becoming “Annali d’Igiene” under the direction of Prof Giuseppe Sanarelli in 1914; “Nuovi Annali d’Igiene e Microbiologia” under the direction of Proff Vittorio Puntoni, Alfredo Tizzano, Vittorio Del Vecchio and Salvatore Ugo D’Arca in 1949; and finally “Annali di Igiene: Medicina Preventiva e di Comunità” under the direction of Prof Gaetano Maria Fara in 1989; having been published with no interruptions from 1889 to the present for 136 years – it is therefore the oldest Italian scientific journal in the field of Public Health.
